Used Bentley values vary by model, age and the individual car. Current iSeeCars model estimates put five-year depreciation at about 34 percent for the Continental GT coupe, 42 percent for the Bentayga and 46 percent for the Flying Spur. Those are national model-level estimates, not a forecast for a specific VIN. A three- to five-year-old example may have absorbed a substantial part of the early depreciation shown in those estimates, but condition, mileage, specification, service history and market demand can materially change the result. Which year to shortlist also depends on the generation you want, the recalls on that VIN and whether that particular car qualifies for Certified by Bentley.

How much does a Bentley depreciate, model by model?

In the iSeeCars model estimates used here, five-year depreciation ranges from about 34 to 48 percent, compared with 41.7 percent for all vehicles in the same dataset. Within this table, the Continental GT and GTC have the lowest five-year estimates, while the Flying Spur and Bentayga Hybrid have the highest.

At what age does a used Bentley make the most sense?

Three to five years is a useful comparison window, not a universal best age. In the iSeeCars estimates used above, the listed models show roughly 21 to 31 percent depreciation by year three, with additional depreciation by year five. Older cars can cost less to buy, but age also brings additional scheduled-maintenance items on some models and service schedules.

The split, calculated from the table above: the Continental GT loses 22.9 percent in years one to three and a further 11.5 points in years four and five. The Flying Spur loses 31.1 percent, then 14.9 points. The Bentayga loses 23.0 percent, then 19.3 points, the largest second step in the range.

The table suggests that a meaningful portion of estimated depreciation occurs by year three, with further depreciation by year five. That can make three- to five-year-old cars useful to compare with newer examples, but the actual transaction price and future resale value of any vehicle can differ materially from the model-level estimate. Certified by Bentley eligibility should be confirmed for the specific vehicle rather than assumed from age alone.

What changed from one generation to the next?

Each model has generation and powertrain break points worth knowing before you pick a year. Bentley ended W12 production in July 2024 and moved its newest Continental GT and Flying Spur generations to electrified V8 powertrains. Buyers seeking a W12 will generally be looking at pre-owned cars or any remaining unsold older stock.

Which model years have recalls to check?

Recalls span multiple Bentley model years, so check the specific VIN rather than rule out an entire model year. Three campaigns worth knowing for the vehicles discussed here cover certain Bentayga W12s from 2017 to 2023, certain Continental-family cars from 2004 to 2008, and a very small group of 2025 and 2026 V8 cars.

• Certain 2017 to 2023 Bentayga W12 vehicles. Recall 23V592 covers electrical connectors in the fuel supply module that can overheat and, in some cases, lead to a small fuel leak. Bentley's owner notice states that the campaign applies to certain Bentayga W12 vehicles; use the VIN lookup to confirm whether a specific car is included (NHTSA, checked Sept. 21, 2026).
• Certain 2004 to 2008 Continental GT, GTC, Flying Spur and GT Speed vehicles. Recall 08V217 covered 13,420 U.S. vehicles because road salt could corrode the fuel-filter housing and potentially cause a fuel leak (NHTSA, checked Sept. 21, 2026). On a New Jersey car, where NJDOT uses rock salt wetted with liquid calcium chloride or brine, an underbody inspection is still sensible even when that specific recall does not apply.
• Certain 2025–2026 Continental GT and GTC vehicles and certain 2025 Flying Spur vehicles. Recall 25V648 covers 17 U.S. vehicles whose high-pressure fuel-pump attachment may have been improperly tightened, creating a potential fuel-leak risk. The remedy is an inspection of the screw connections and replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump as necessary, free of charge (NHTSA, checked Sept. 21, 2026).

Is Certified by Bentley worth it over a regular used Bentley?

Certified by Bentley adds factory-program benefits that a regular used car may not include. Bentley says every vehicle entering the programme must pass an inspection by Bentley-trained technicians and includes a 12-month warranty with an extension option, plus a Certificate of Authenticity establishing provenance. Whether that added coverage is worth a price difference depends on the specific vehicle, warranty terms and how long you plan to keep it.

Third-party summaries may list additional eligibility or inspection details, but programme rules can change by market and vehicle. Confirm current eligibility, warranty coverage, exclusions and extension options in writing for the specific car before purchase.

A Certified by Bentley vehicle may be priced differently from a comparable non-certified car because certification includes programme inspection and warranty benefits. If you are considering a car outside the programme, a full service history and an independent pre-purchase inspection can help assess condition, but they do not reproduce or replace a Bentley-backed warranty.

What running costs don't depreciate?

Maintenance does not necessarily fall with the purchase price. As a Bentley ages, additional time-based service items may become due, depending on model, engine, market and the vehicle-specific Service Handbook. A lower purchase price therefore does not by itself mean lower ownership costs.

One Bentley Motors European menu-priced schedule for cars 48 months and older lists spark plugs at years 3, 6 and 9, engine coolant every 5 years and a fuel filter at years 5 and 10 (checked Sept. 21, 2026). That document is a European reference, not a universal U.S. schedule for every Bentley. The Service Handbook and VIN-specific maintenance requirements for the car you are considering should control. Ask for the service history and the date the next required items fall due.

Which used Bentley fits which buyer

Start with how you will use the car, then compare the generations, condition, history, warranty status and asking price of the specific vehicles available. The depreciation figures above can help compare broad age and model patterns, but they should not be treated as a prediction of what any particular Bentley will be worth later.

• You are comparing depreciation estimates: the Continental GT and GTC have the lowest five-year model estimates in the iSeeCars data used above. That does not establish the future loss on a specific car.
• You want a W12: Bentley ended W12 production in 2024, so buyers will generally be looking at pre-owned cars or any remaining unsold older stock. On a 2017–2023 Bentayga W12, check the VIN for recall 23V592 and confirm whether any applicable remedy has been completed.
• You want rear-seat space: compare used Flying Spur asking prices with the model's relatively high depreciation estimate in the table. The estimate can explain part of the gap from original new pricing, but it does not establish that a particular listing is a bargain.
• Warranty matters to you: confirm whether the specific car qualifies for Certified by Bentley or carries any other applicable warranty. An older, lower-priced car can still have significant maintenance and repair costs.

Do Bentley hybrids depreciate faster?

By iSeeCars' current estimates, the Bentayga Hybrid does. It loses about 47.7 percent in five years against 42.3 percent for the non-hybrid Bentayga. That is an estimate from national pricing, not a rule for every car, and the gap can change as more hybrids reach the used market. Check the specific car's history and battery condition before you compare prices.

Is a high-mileage Bentley a bad buy?

Not by itself. Mileage should be weighed alongside service history, age, condition and how the car was stored. Bentley retailers commonly reference annual or 10,000-mile servicing, but the vehicle's Service Handbook and VIN-specific requirements should control. Ask for dated records and check which time- or mileage-based items are actually due next on that car.

Should I buy a used Bentley from a warmer state instead?

A warmer-state history may mean less exposure to road salt, but location alone does not establish condition. A New Jersey car with documented maintenance and a well-preserved underbody may be in better condition than a poorly stored car from elsewhere. Wherever the car comes from, run the VIN for recalls, review the service and title history, and consider an independent inspection before you commit to a price.
